Final Money Report
Well, it arrived. The final monetary report for the year. I ended on a good week. . .meaning I made a little money. I pulled in a wopping $2.65, which brings my year total to: $986.57.
Technically, I made a thousand dollars. Over the years, I've kept all of my writing profits separate from our other funds. When I have enough, I put those profits into cds. So, with interest from writing-related cds, I did make over $1000.00 this year.
But . . . who cares.
Next year is a new year. I got a novel coming out, quite a few appearances scheduled already, and maybe another surprise or two.
Right now, I'm reading God's Little Acre by Erskine Caldwell. Apparently, some people tried to keep it out of the public for reasons of pornography. I can see it, but I wonder more if people weren't trying to suppress it because of its blatant moments of communist ideology.
Communism? Pornography? How can you go wrong. Get this book!

Well, I'm glad you hit your mark - technically.
I am in the process of searching the author of the book you mentioned, and will definitely see if any of the libraries around here have it. If it does promote communism, I'll probably disregard it as little more than maudlin rambling, as communism is a failed system of governance. It looks great on paper, but...
Anyway, I'll definitely be buying your new novel, so let me know when it's available.
P.S. Want to talk about a book that has been banned for sexually explicit messages and/or plots, talk about Lolita by Nabokov. I bought it a few months ago online and am just getting around to reading it.
Hi T,
The communism in the book is more grassroots. I don't even know if the characters would call what they're doing communist. But, the cotton mill has closed, starving the workers, and one of the workers keeps talking about going in there, turning the power back on, and running the mills for themselves. Threatening talk for a 1930s book.
Looks like my novel, Landscape with Fragmented Figures, will be released on Feb 1. I'll let you know.
I've never read Lolita. Maybe that will be next on my list.
Hey, this is Mike Beeckman. Not sure if you remember me. If not, just ignore me.
Congrats on your success this year. I'm actually in the process of writing my first novel. It's a lot harder than I imagined. I think the biggest hurdle for me right now is forcing myself to step away from the wife and kids and sitting down at the computer.
Very glad to hear that you're continuing to write. I'd like to purchase both of your novels. Should I email you, or is Amazon a better way to pick them up?
Oh, and definitely read Lolita if you haven't already. Amazing novel, despite the tough subject matter.
Hi Mike,
Of course I remember you! Sounds like you're doing pretty good. Best of luck with that novel. To finish my novels, I found that I had to write every day no matter what. . .which can feel selfish with a family. I'm not saying you have to write for hours, though. Even a half hour will get the words down.
As to my novels . . . well, buying them from me is probably cheapest. I could sell both of them to you for $27.00 (which would include shipping). Do you use paypal?
If so, send me your email address.
If not, send me an email and we'll work out snail mail details.
