Places in Midland, MI that have my book

If anyone in the tri-cities happens to be looking for my novel, you can now find it in three Midland locations. First, it's in the downtown's Northwood Gallery. Second, it's in the gift shop at the Midland Center for the Arts.

Finally, Sleepy Hollow bookshop on Saginaw Rd. in Midland is carrying a few copies. Today was the first time that I've been in Sleepy Hollow. What a great independent bookstore! Their classics section is well-stocked. Why is the word about this place so quiet? Would they do better in downtown Midland? Downtown Midland would certainly be better to have such a store.

In any case, if you live in the tri-city/tri-county area, you have to check out Sleepy Hollow books.

New Michigan Bookstore

There's a new place to buy books in Michigan, and it's located in Lexington -- a very cool little Lake Huron town on the east side of the Thumb.

The Lexington Booksmith and Gallery LLC is located at 5533 Main Street, Lexington, Michigan, 48450. They are just south of the main light in the village on the water side (east). The proprietors are Jim and Sheila Dunbar.

Of the bookstore and gallery, Sheila Dunbar says, "The gallery portion of our store provides wall space for local artists to exhibit their work. The artists present what they have produced and we choose those items that we think would go well in our shop. We do that on consignment. There are wonderful local artists who have very little opportunity to show their works other than two or three times a year. We want them to be able to hang their work on our walls instead of being stored away behind closed studio doors. We hope to have showings throughout the winter months.

Our primary goal is to be the 'modest little bookstore in Lexington where everyone can find something to meet their reading needs.'
Our secondary goal is to enjoy being with books, paintings and the people who produce and enjoy those two media as well. What better way to spend your retirement. :-)"

On August 4-5, Lexington will host an art fair -- an event worth checking out. On Saturday, August 4, I will be signing books at the store from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Even if you miss the signing, my books will be available at the store.

If you can, make an effort to support this independent bookstore!

Quick Blog for Now

I just returned from teaching a two-week fiction writing course in Northern Michigan University's MFA program. It was a great time. The trip started with a successful two-day book signing at the Mackinac Island bookstore. My students were a great deal of fun to have in the class, and their final products were quite strong, given that they had two weeks to write a full-blown story. And, when I got home, I returned to the news that one of my poems was accepted to appear in Rattle magazine. What a great poetry magazine. I'm always proud to have my work in there.
