More Upcoming Events

On Saturday, February 10th, Larry Levy and I will be reading again at the Creative Spirit Center in Midland at 7:30 p.m. Let me warn in advance that it costs ten dollars. As I remember, the CSC does provide a little food for your trouble.

Also, on Thursday, March 15th, I will be the luncheon speaker at The University of Michigan-Flint's 2nd Annual Critical and Creative Writing Conference. To find out more about the conference, do a google search for University of Michigan-Flint. Find your way to the English Department, and then find your way to Sigma Tau Delta.

Recent Acceptance

I just received a nice email from the editor of Whistling Shade, which was to inform me that they are going to publish a short story of mine entitled "Mercury". It's another one of my fly fishing stories; they seem to like them.

The story comes out in their late April issue.

First Post of 2007

Got a few things happening, so I thought I'd bundle them all into one post.

First, on Thursday, January 25, I will be reading poetry with Larry Levy at 6:30 p.m. at the Sweet Boutique in downtown Bay City. Stop by if you're in the area.

Second, I'm reading two books that I would recommend. First, from Black Lawrence Press, I'm reading My Window Seat for Arlena Twigg by James Reidel. It's a very interesting collection of poems that gives a very unique perspective on the world. Reidel's love of language is evident. Certainly a book worth buying.

I'm also almost finished reading The Language of Elk by Benjamin Percy -- a collection of short stories out from Carnegie Mellon Press. Percy's stories are very burly -- both in subject matter and in size. With so much short fiction getting shorter and shorter, it's fun to read his rangy pieces. Plus, it's fun to read stories from a guy who isn't afraid to tell "manly" stories. Carnegie Mellon has a good track record in my book for short fiction. They also published John Smolen's My One and Only Bomb Shelter and Rachael Perry's How to Fly.

Finally, I just learned today that Smokelong Quarterly is going to publish one of my flash pieces (an excerpt from my novella) in their upcoming March issue. Saginaw's own Matt Bell was guest editor for the last issue. Check it out at http://www.smokelong.com
